- I want to give an idea of the scope of my research and interests, which I typically have to constrain quite a bit when I am writing to a particular potential employer.
- Writing cover letters is a lot of work, and they can include original ideas that are worth archiving publicly.
- Seeing work from many angles can be useful for anyone trying to understand it. If I'm lucky, this could lead to future collaborations.
- Maybe I can get a constructive remark or two from the peanut gallery on how to say what I want to say.
- Maybe someone will read them and hire me.
